The former In Sheeps Clothing at 710- E. Fourth Place was an incredible Japanese-style listening bar that closed during the pandemic, which made it a big loss for the neighborhood and Los Angeles’s nightlife. But the space is at least coming back as the permanent space of De La Nonna, a mini pan pizza restaurant that served everywhere from Dudley Market in Venice and Little Prince in Santa Monica to Melody in Virgil Village. With a quick turnaround, De La Nonna hopes to open in the In Sheeps Clothing space some time in November with seasonal pan pizzas from chef Patrick Costa, Jose Cordon, and Lee Zaremba.
Using a 55-hour fermented dough and incorporating Detroit, Sicilian, and “Nonna-style” methods, the new Arts District space will also serve things one might expect to see at an Italian grandmother’s Sunday supper. The former listening bar decor will gave way to an Italian cafe feel, with a large, lush patio. Expect cocktails and wine to accompany the food. Three solid picks in LA by the New York Times
The New York Times doesn’t have the best track record of understanding things Los Angeles, but with critic Tejal Rao based locally, it wasn’t a surprise to see three very worthy picks in the paper’s 50 Restaurants List for the entire country. Restaurants N/Naka, Mini Kabob, and Pearl River Deli were among the selections for this year.
Tavern-style bar pizza comes to Hollywood
On the subject of pizza, there aren’t that many places that do Midwestern-style bar tavern pizza in LA, but Ernesto Uchimura of Electric Owl is launching a pop-up called Ernesto’s with Cheese at the Hollywood restaurant. Think super thin, almost cracker-list crust with cheese all the way to the edge. Check its Instagram for hours, and based on how popular it’s been, plan to go earlier in the day before they sell out.
More coming to Malibu...and it’s inside a spa?
Roving Westside reporter Toddrickallen catches a new eating establishment coming to the Park at Cross Creek development in Malibu along PCH, with Cure Spa supposedly landing a new restaurant there. A rep for the space says they can’t confirm or deny a new restaurant, but then why is there an ABC posting on the front?
