Zara Taps Cool-Girl Charlotte Gainsbourg for Denim Collection

“Effortless chic” defines the latest collection from Zara, which worked with English-French musician, actor and all-around cool girl Charlotte Gainsbourg to bring the concept to life.

The 23-piece women’s capsule collection merges masculine and feminine influences, with denim—comprised of both conventional and recycled cotton—serving as a central theme. The fabric is featured in key pieces ranging from a slouchy oversized denim jacket to an extra-long, relaxed-fit black jean and a cropped flare jean in a dark blue wash.

Denim shirting, as well as non-denim essentials like a triangle bra, long-sleeved sweater and ultra-lightweight T-shirt are mixed in to reflect the creative’s low-key, everyday style.

“Zara understood that these are my essentials; I didn’t want there to be too much choice,” Gainsbourg stated. “These clothes feel natural to me.”

Accessories such as a leather backpack, simple black belt and a round-toe ankle boot punctuate the collection and complete the ever-popular cool-girl aesthetic.

Gainsbourg, the daughter of ’70s singer songwriter and model Jane Birkin, previously starred in a short film as part of Zara Home’s Fall/Winter 2020 campaign. Denim has long been a key part of her uniform, as demonstrated by the Canadian tuxedo she wore to the 2019 Cannes Film Festival and also this year.

The collection echos the head-to-toe denim looks recently seen on the Spring/Summer 2022 catwalks, signaling a return to pared-down wardrobes and fewer fleeting trends.

The limited-edition Charlotte Gainsbourg collection is now available exclusively on the Zara website and in stores, and ranges from $17-$299.
