‘Scream’ fans go wild as full trailer for new film finally drops

Do you still like scary movies?

More than a generation after the first “Scream” film hit cinemas, a two-minute trailer for the next installment of the horror movie franchise has dropped — just in time for Halloween.

The slasher flick won’t hit cinemas until Jan. 14 next year, but Paramount Pictures released the trailer Tuesday, keen to capitalize on the current spooky season.

The upcoming film is the fifth in the horror franchise, but it won’t be known as “Scream 5.” Instead, it’s simply titled “Scream” and is heavily inspired by the original movie, released way back in 1996.

Indeed, the trailer for the new “Scream” begins just as the original did — with the masked serial killer, known as Ghostface, calling a young woman to taunt her over the phone, before slashing her to death.

While the victim in the first film was played by Drew Barrymore, she’s portrayed by Disney starlet Jenna Ortega, 19, in the new flick.

Ortega joins a slew of young Hollywood stars cast in the movie, including “13 Reasons Why” actor, Dylan Minnette, 24, and Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan’s son, 29-year-old Jack Quaid (“Star Trek: Lower Decks”).

Meanwhile, Neve Campbell, 48, Courteney Cox, 57, and her ex-husband David Arquette, 50, are all reprising the roles they played in the first four “Scream” installments.

The trailer for the new “Scream” movie racked up more than 140,000 views on YouTube within hours of being released, with hundreds of fans leaving excited comments.

“I’m 21, I grew up watching the “Scream” series but I never thought I’d experience a “Scream” movie in theaters but here we are! I couldn’t be more excited!!” one remarked.

“This legit looks like a great modern update of the series!” another exclaimed.

A third person chimed in, saying: “I jumped out of my skin. Seems like they’ve dialed down the humor and gone for darker scares and I’m here for it! SCREAM 1 VIBES! I’m counting the days.”
