Alex Caruso is one of the most beloved players in the NBA. Now playing with the Bulls, Caruso will have the chance to win over a whole new franchise after his solid stint with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he helped win an NBA championship with his hustle on the defensive end.

To this day, no fan has been able to explain why Alex Caruso is so beloved in the basketball world. But there is just something about him that has made him such a fan favorite. So much so, that NBA fans have tried voting Alex Caruso into the All-Star game on multiple occasions.

This past offseason, one of the biggest controversies in the NBA was Alex Caruso's arrest for possession of Marijuana while in Texas. The internet naturally were ready with memes, and even LeBron James joined in on the jokes about him protecting Caruso.

But one fan on Reddit went the extra mile and proved that Caruso statistically performs better in cities where recreational Marijuana use is legalized. Reddit user u/Lagooooooon proved that Caruso's scoring improves when he plays in a city that allows for the recreational use of Marijuana.

Hypothesis: Alex Caruso’s performance in NBA games improves in states where Recreational Marijuana is legal.

Results:

  • Alex Caruso's points per game increases 37.8% in cities where Recreational Marijuana is legal.
  • Alex Caruso's points per game increases from 5.21 in cities where Recreational Marijuana is illegal to 7.18 in cities where Recreational Marijuana is legal.

As you can see, I have proven to a statistical significance that Alex Caruso's points per game increases by a large margin in cities where Recreational Marijuana is legal. Alex Caruso just signed a $37M contract to play in Illinois, a state that just recently.

Edit: Here's additional data provided by /u/the_wheyfinder and they certainly do a lot better job of proving statistical significance than I did (p-value = 0.041).

As the common saying in academia goes, correlation does not equate to causation. So while these stats may be accurate, Caruso's scoring might not have improved just because he was in a city where Marijuana can be used recreationally. But clearly, fans support him and back him up at any and every step.

For Caruso, his career has been helped greatly by fan support. But he doesn't coast off of the wave of fan support. Caruso is a tireless player who always gives his all on the court, especially when it comes to defense. He was one of the Lakers' best defensive guards during their 2020 NBA championship run.

And now, he gets the chance to play for the Chicago Bulls, another historic franchise in the NBA. Caruso secured a big payday for himself and found a new home.
