Borussia Dortmund are hopeful of having Erling Haaland and Manuel Akanji in the squad for this weekend’s Bundesliga clash against Mainz 05.

Erling Haaland returned to Borussia Dortmund’s training ground on Tuesday after spending a few days working on his recovery in Marbella. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, the pain in Haaland’s thigh has now subsided. And he could be back in the squad for this weekend’s game against Mainz 05. The newspaper adds that the final decision on his status will only be made closer to the game.

There were also worries regarding the status of Manuel Akanji, who suffered an adductor injury while playing for Switzerland last week. But the Borussia Dortmund defender’s injury is not serious and he received the all clear from the medical team on Tuesday. He will now steadily increase his training workload in the next few days and could be an option for the Mainz game.

Ruhr Nachrichten also report that the game will likely come too soon for Gio Reyna, who is still working his way back to full fitness after suffering a muscle injury on international duty in September. Kicker say that the attacking midfielder is still making good progress though, and he could be available again in the foreseeable future.

Gregor Kobel, Thorgan Hazard and Thomas Meunier should also be available for this weekend’s game. But Raphael Guerreiro and Youssoufa Moukoko have already been ruled out due to torn muscle fibres.
