He approached other cultures without judgment or hubris.
I don't know if you follow the niche circles of First Amendment law, but Marc Randazza is a legend; in both his scholar, and...bluntness. But, following Bourdain's death, he wrote a very raw oped on depression and suicide, that I believe goes a long way to understanding what was in Bourdain's head before he died.
