Why Eagles could be staring at 3 top-10 picks in the 2022 NFL Draft

The Philadelphia Eagles landed Alabama wideout DeVonta Smith with their first-round pick in 2021.

The Eagles’ first season under head coach Nick Sirianni has produced mixed results thus far, but their NFL Draft future has never looked brighter. With the potential for three first-round picks in April, the Eagles are sitting pretty as they enter Week 6 of the regular season.

The Eagles own their first-round pick as well as the Miami Dolphins’ 2022 first-round selection. They also own a conditional 2022 second-round pick from the Indianapolis Colts. That pick can become a first-round pick if Colts quarterback Carson Wentz plays 75% of the team’s offensive snaps this season.

Right now, the Eagles are 2-3 and the Colts and Dolphins are both 1-4. While the Colts have struggled mightily and Wentz has dealt with an array of injuries, he’s still played roughly 99% of the snaps so far this season. If Wentz continues to play, despite the Colts’ shortcomings in the standings, the Eagles will land the Colts’ first-round pick, which could be a very high selection.

According to Tankathon.com, the Eagles are currently in position to claim three top-10 picks in the first round. The Dolphins’ pick is currently stationed as the fifth overall selection, while the Colts’ pick is right behind it at sixth overall. If the season ended today, the Eagles would pick 10th overall.

So, not only would the Eagles be picking three times in the top-10, their own pick would actually be the worst of the bunch, making their offseason trades with the Colts and Dolphins look that much better.

Here’s a look at the Eagles’ current 2022 draft-pick haul as it stands right now:

First Round (2)

- Eagles’ own pick

- Dolphins’ pick (acquired in pre-draft trade back to the 12th overall pick)

Second Round (2)

- Eagles’ own pick

- Colts’ pick (acquired in the trade for QB Carson Wentz)*

* The Colts’ second-round pick can turn into a first-round pick if Wentz plays 75% of the offensive snaps this season, or plays 70% of the offensive snaps and the Colts make the playoffs.

Third Round (1)

- Eagles’ own pick

Fourth Round (1)

- Eagles’ own pick

Fifth Round (2)

- Eagles own pick*

- Washington’s pick (acquired in a Day 3 pick swap)

* While the Eagles traded their sixth-round pick to the Jaguars for Minshew, the pick can be enhanced to a fifth-round pick if Minshew plays 50% of the offensive snaps in three or more games this season. The Eagles would then swap out their sixth-round pick for a fifth-round pick.

Sixth Round (1)

Eagles traded their own pick to Jaguars

- Colts’ pick (acquired in the swap for OT Matt Pryor)

Seventh Round (0)

- Eagles traded this pick to the Colts (with Pryor)
