Battlefield 2042 management wanted Modern Warfare-like operators

According to reports, Battlefield 2042 management encouraged the developers to go for Modern Warfare-like Operators, instead of classic Battlefield classes.

Battlefield 2042 open beta has left a sour taste in the fans' mouths due to many technical issues but also some gameplay decisions that DICE have made over the last two years. Players are not quite happy with the new Specialists, who basically replace the game's traditional four-class system which allowed players to play as Engineer, Medic, Assault and Sniper.

Instead of this, players can choose from Specialists, who are very similar to Call of Duty's Operators, though, DICE have made their soldiers more unique by giving each a special gadget to use.

You may ask what is the reason behind such a decision. Why would DICE change something that was not broken in the first place? Well, according to the most recent report from insider Tom Henderson, it's DICE management that pushed for such a change.

Henderson claims that many of the game's problems came from the higher-ups, who, allegedly, were not fully committed to the project. He states that Battlefield 2042 management loved the idea of Call of Duty's Operators and even encouraged the developers to implement a similar feature to the game.

EA probably think Specialists are a better fit for Battlefield 2042 in terms of monetisation and there's also a full Battle Pass system. We're not necessarily against such monetisation, but when such a decision directly impacts Battlefield 2042's gameplay, like the removal of classes for soulless Specialists, then this becomes a major issue, one that the majority of Battlefield 2042 players doesn't seem to like one bit.

Of course, it's too late to change this since we're just over a month until Battlefield 2042 arrives. We can only hope that EA and DICE will use the remaining time to improve the Specialists and their gadgets and make their existence more meaningful. Otherwise, Battlefield 2042 will not be the Battlefield game we have been waiting for all these years.
