'Page Zoom' Accessibility Feature Coming To Chrome For Android

Google Chrome is one of the most popular Internet browsers, especially on Android. This popular Android web browser is getting a new Page Zoom accessibility feature.

As per the latest report by MSPoweruser (via Reddit user Leopeva64-2), the new Google Chrome Page Zoom accessibility feature is added to the ‘Canary’ channel to provide symmetry in terms of text scaling of various websites.

There are multiple threads, including a long one on Chrome support forums related to the issue. With the addition of the Page Zoom feature to Google Chrome for Android, it seems Google has listened to its users and implemented the new feature.

The Page Zoom accessibility feature will make text scaling on websites better on mobile devices, and it works exactly like the zoom feature on Chrome for desktop.

Once you have set the zoom level of a certain page of a website, it will get stored. This means you won’t have to go through changing the zoom levels again for that particular page. Chrome browser for Android will automatically change the zoom scaling for you.

Page Zoom feature is live for the Google Chrome Canary Android app

In order to access this new feature, you need to tap on the down-arrow button on the address bar, just before the website link. Pressing the down-arrow button would show you different options such as Cookies, Zoom, Last visited information.

Here, you need to tap on the Zoom option. Then you will see a Zoom level control, where you can select the zoom level apt for you. If you think you would live to go back to the default zoom settings, then you can hit the Reset button.

As per the screenshot shared by MSPoweruser, the page zoom control bar shows up at the top of the browser interface. This position may get changed in the future.

The important thing to note here is that this feature is live only for the Google Chrome Canary Android app at the moment. However, it is expected to be available for Chrome for Android with the next stable release.

Moreover, even if you are using the Google Chrome Canary app, to use this feature, you need to enable a flag. To do that, type in “chrome://flags” in the address bar and hit the search button.

In the newly opened Chrome Flag menu, search for “Accessibility Page Zoom”. From the drop-down menu, select the Enabled option. Then finally, restart the Chrome browser for the flag to come into effect.
