Report: Liverpool Defender Ben Davies Wants Anfield Return After Loan At Blades
Liverpool's on loan defender Ben Davies wants to re-join the Reds after his season long spell at Sheffield United comes to an end. The centre-back wants to return to see if he can force his way back into Jurgen Klopp's first team plans.
As reported by the Liverpool Echo, reporter Nathan Hemmingway spoke to the 26 year old recently about what he plans to do when his loan spell at the Blades finishes.
Return To Liverpool
"He said first and foremost he's not thinking about anything major; it's just about this season and playing again, and playing to the best of his ability and trying to get back to the player he was at Preston when Liverpool came in for him."
"Then in the summer he wants to go back to Liverpool to see if the door is open, because you don't know what happens."
"He wants to have a good pre-season with Liverpool, see where the land lies, and see if he can try and impress the manager, Jurgen Klopp."
Hemmingway went on to say that if he is deemed surplus to requirements at Anfield, it's probable that the Blades will be one of the clubs interested.
Sheffield United Interest
"But if Liverpool are happy to let him leave permanently, I'm sure, providing he impresses and become the player everyone who has tracked him these past 12 months have been convinced he is, Sheffield United will be looking at that."
"Ben was a player they tried for the summer before last, but couldn't afford him, and they tried again in January, but then the decision was made for no signings, because of United's position in the table at that time,"
"So they've been tracking Ben for a long, long time."
After a difficult start to life at Bramall Lane due to some injury niggles, Davies has now settled into the starting line up and looks more like his old self as he finally gets a consistent run of games under his belt.
Last season it was a mystery as to why with all the injury problems Jurgen Klopp had in defence that Davies failed to get a chance with the Liverpool manager preferring to stick with Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams.
Its difficult to see therefore how the Englishman makes the breakthrough with Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate, Phillips and Williams all seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order.
