Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale has given fans their first hint at who will be fighting for their lives in the soap's deadly rapids stunt next week, as ITV's Super Soap Week approaches.

Ellis Chapman (Aaron Anthony) and Priya Kotecha's (Fiona Wade) adventure survival challenge will get under way next week, with spirits running high among the participants at first, but killer Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) is out for revenge after overhearing her boyfriend, David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden), confessing his love to Victoria Barton (Isabel Hodgins).

It has been confirmed that multiple characters will end up in serious jeopardy as they battle to get out of some dangerous rapids, while a waterfall stunt and two currently undisclosed stunts are also on the agenda.

The survival challenge will begin with cries of enthusiasm from the participants, who jump into their rafts and set off down the river together, ready for adventure.

Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) and Ben Tucker (Simon Lennon) try their best to rally their respective team members and things seem to be going well at first.

However, their day takes a horrific turn and soon enough, several characters are stuck in the swirling waters and fighting for their lives.

The first preview pictures of the rapids horror show Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin) and Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) both struggling separately in the water, while we also see Victoria trapped in the rapids and crying out for help.

David is pictured looking down from a position on top of some rocks, while further photos show him beside Victoria in the freezing waters – suggesting that David could enter the dangerous rapids to try to help her.

Emmerdale producer Kate Brooks recently told Digital Spy and other media that fans can expect to see "a white knuckle ride through the icy rapids that will plunge some of our well-loved characters into peril", adding that the frightening scenes even affected the actors.

"I think it's safe to say that some of the reactions captured on screen may be genuine reactions," she said. "I don't know how much of it is acting and how much of it is real fear! It was excitement at first, followed by: 'Hang on a minute, this is massive'."

Emmerdale airs these scenes in the week commencing Monday, October 18 on ITV.
