Vermont’s Barn Opera has announced “La Traviata” as the new Barn Opera House’s inaugural production. The show will run Oct. 15 and 16, 2021.

Verdi’s tragic masterpiece will feature soprano Kasey King as the party-loving escort Violetta Valéry, with tenor Chris Plaas as the smitten Alfredo Germont. Baritone Nicholas Tocci sings the role of Alfredo’s father, Giorgio Germont, whose ambitions are threatened by Alfredo and Violetta’s romance.

Completing the cast is soprano Lauren Yokabaskas as Flora, baritone Peter Campbell as Barone, tenor Ryan Mangan as Gastone, bass Tobias Duke as Marchese/Dottore, and soprano Zoe Hart as Annina.

Cailin Marcel Manson conducts Barn Opera’s Artistic Director Joshua Collier’s production, with Assistant Music Director Felix Jarrar accompanying on piano.

The new opera house is a converted barn complete with an orchestra pit, stationary seating for 110 guests in the auditorium, and a lobby/pre-show area, according to the venue’s description on the company’s website. The venue is the only one in the state dedicated to operatic performance.
