The sixth entry in Ubisoft's popular shooter series is unfortunately not the most polished game from a technical point of view. A new tech review video by Digital Foundry now visualizes the reasons for Far Cry 6's technical shortcomings.

Ubisoft's new Triple-A shooter Far Cry 6 has finally hit the (virtual) store shelves last week, when the game was simultaneously launched for PC, PS4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox One and Series X/S consoles. While we have already reported on the unfortunate fact that the next-gen console versions of Far Cry 6 (from US$59 on Amazon) won't support raytracing, Digital Foundry has now thoroughly analyzed the game from a technical point of view in a new tech review video.

Since neither Sony's PlayStation 5 nor Microsoft's Xbox Series X feature raytracing effects in this particular game, reflective surfaces like wet streets or cabinets made from metal can look way better in the PC version of Far Cry 6, depending on which setting is selected. The low resolution raytraced shadows on this latest version of the Dunia engine on the other hand are hardly missed on consoles, which can at least render Far Cry 6 at dynamic resolutions close to 4K while targeting 60fps.

But in conclusion, Far Cry 6's technical implementation is far from being flawless. There are just too many visual inconsistencies that are mentioned in the embedded tech review video below. The reviewer at Digital Foundry particularly criticized the frame pacing issues that the game is plagued by. These stuttery frame drops were already present in Far Cry 5, but they are apparently even worse in Far Cry 6 and mostly appear when driving a vehicle in the game. If you want to know at which resolution, fps and settings your PC can run Far Cry 6, please also refer to our thorough Notebookcheck benchmark and performance analysis of Ubisoft's latest game.
