The last few weeks have been awful. So many deaths lately. Is it because I am getting older and it just seems that way?

Six deaths in less than two weeks, three from COVID-19, one from old age, one from stroke and one from motorcycle accident. It’s probably not a good sign when you find yourself daily humming several of the funeral tunes.

You listen to the wonderful stories about the great people who died, who they touched in their lives and how much they will be missed. Such sadness for the families. (I almost wish I would go to one and they would say what a mean creep they were.) I told you I was a Christian in training.

Watching the TV at night is almost worse as you see this President and his group of cronies dismantle our Democracy one stone at a time. The New York Times had the audacity to suggest a contest to redesign the flag and they are attacking our state for voting for the Heartbeat Bill. Harvard’s Chaplain is an atheist. Some people believe there are more than two genders and they want children to decide what they are. (My granddaughter would like to be a unicorn but she’s two.) And then there is the college professor who identifies as a Hippo, a sexy hippo.

Heck yes, Heaven sounds inviting. No unhappiness, no disease, no tears, no wackos, no loneliness, just peace and happiness.

What is sad is that so many people will never make it “home” to Heaven even though God made it easy for us to go.

Basically, you just need to believe that Jesus came to earth, became man and died on the cross for our sins. You get an “E” ticket to Heaven for literally a one liner. How is that possible?

Good thing I am not in charge, believe you me I would tighten that criteria up. It would get ugly real fast with lightning bolts flying.

How and why would God be such a pushover for all of us sinners? He does not need us. He is surrounded by angels and has everything anyone could want.

The answer is that Jesus loves us more than we could ever imagine. He chose to live on the earth, taking the time to show us how to live the right way, then he took the unjustified blows and died on the cross for people he knew did not deserve it.

There is a song that starts out, “All my life You have been faithful” and it makes me cry to know that Jesus never faltered in loving me, but I have goofed so many times. He is so so good and I wonder if Jesus ever cries when he sees us reject his gift?

Don’t miss a chance to talk about Jesus’ gift to someone who needs it and tell them how easy he made it for all of us to be saved and go to Heaven.

Put a smile on Jesus’ face today. It’s reason enough to thank him that he did not put me in charge of lightning bolts.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. Romans 10:9-10
