A retired Ripon College economist says the latest jobs report shows just how tied the economy is to the pandemic. U.S. employers added just 194,000 jobs in September, a second straight tepid gain. Economist Paul Schoofs says the numbers are evidence that the pandemic still has a grip on the economy with many companies struggling to fill millions of open jobs. At the same time, the unemployment rate fell sharply to 4.8 percent from 5.2 percent in August.
