As autumn kicks into full swing, there’s nothing like a good period drama to watch with some warm tea under a blanket. We’re talking shows like The Last KingdomAlias Grace, etc. Hearty dramas that will keep you entertained as the daylight shrinks outside. The Last Kingdom is a fan-favorite, a British drama that originally premiered on BBC that was based on Bernard Cornwell’s The Saxon Stories. But if you’ve already watched all four seasons, you’re probably on the hunt for a new quest. We’ve got you covered.

The Last Kingdom debuted its most recent season on Netflix last year. Great news: the streaming giant has confirmed that the series will return for a fifth season, though we’re not sure when that might be at this point in time. The renewal came last summer, while the pandemic was still raging on across the world and productions were just restarting. With that news, we may be able to start looking for a Last Kingdom release date within the new year.

That being said, here are seven shows like The Last Kingdom to keep you occupied while Netflix drafts the fifth season.

The story takes place in AD 9, in which the Roman occupation of Magna Germania results in a fight for peace on German land. For historical reference: this is right around the fall of Augustus after his reign of 20 years. If you’re looking for more action-packed depictions of history, Barbarians is the show for you.
