Jorge Masvidal And Leon Edwards Set For UFC 269, Immediately Brings Back Memories Of Infamous Backstage Brawl

One of the biggest grudge matches in UFC welterweight history looks set to take place later this year.

According to reports from Ariel Helwani, rivals Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards will finally lock horns inside the octagon with UFC matchmakers aiming for the fight to take place at UFC 269 in December

It's understood the three-round bout won't headline the already-stacked event, although it will feature on the main card, of course.

A venue still hasn't been confirmed by the UFC but some fight fans are expecting T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to host the UFC's final major event of the year.

Stylistically, this match-up between Masvidal and Edwards will be fascinating to watch.

But, as many of you may know, there's some bad blood simmering beneath the surface between these two that makes this fight even more exciting.

Rewind back a few years to a UFC event in London.

After some time away from the cage, Masvidal came back with a bang by knocking out Darren Till in his own back yard.

The brutal finish was one thing, but it was the events that unfolded outside of the octagon that truly made headlines.

During a post-fight interview, Masvidal got into an altercation with Edwards backstage which resulted in the Brit walking away with a huge cut under his eye.

And, of course, the infamous "three-piece and a soda" one-liner was born.

Since that incident, Edwards has made no secret of the fact that he can't wait to get his hands on Masvidal.

Well, now it seems he'll finally get his chance.

Edwards currently boasts the second-longest win streak in the division after securing nine victories without a single loss.

In his most recent fight against Nate Diaz, that hot streak almost came ot an end in the final round when Edwards was badly rocked, but he held on for a unanimous decision win.

As for Masvidal, he's currently riding two straight defeats against reigning welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, the latest being a devastating knockout loss.

This bout, between two blokes that are undoubtedly going to to stand and bang, couldn't come at a better time.
