Barstool Sports’ Dave Williams confronts John Cusack over White Sox fandom

John Cusack was put on the spot about being a “bandwagon White Sox” fan after attending the team’s 12-6 win over the Astros on Sunday.

Barstool Sports’ Dave Williams — who’s previously expressed his issue with Cusack being a fan of both Chicago teams, the White Sox and Cubs — confronted Cusack outside Guaranteed Rate Field in a video that has gone viral.

“I can like whoever I want,” the “High Fidelity” actor told Williams.

Cusack went on to quiz the blogger about White Sox facts. When Williams guessed wrong, the actor replied, “That proves your ignorance.”

Cusack eventually said, “We’ll have to agree to disagree,” and gave Williams a fist bump.

Cusack later addressed the confrontation in a series of tweets, calling Williams’ behavior “not smart or polite.” The two eventually got into a fiery back-and-forth, and exchanged lewd insults on Twitter.

Cusack spewed a number of insults at Williams, calling him a “silly pathetic little troll,” “collosal [sic] idiot” and “a stupid f–k.”

Cusack continued tweeting about Williams while replying to fans.

“He’s not a Sox fan,” the actor replied to a supporter, adding that Williams “knows nothing about the Sox I asked him. He’s a click bait a–hole.”

The video has been viewed more than two million times, and celebrities are even getting in on the comment spree.

Actress Patricia Arquette replied to the video on Twitter, writing, “Stop this. This is a bad example to kids and not in the spirit of baseball. You don’t get to decide who can cheer for who. Stop it. [You’re] bringing a darkness into all of this.”

In a reply to Arquette, Cusack accused Williams of “talking s–t and trying to use a grown man he doesn’t know for click bait,” adding, “f–k him.”

Cusack sent multiple tweets in reply to Arquette, who has yet to respond.

Monday’s Game 4 of the American League Division Series between the White Sox and Astros is rescheduled (rain) for 1:07 p.m., Tuesday in Chicago.

Houston has a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series.
