Texans injury update: QB Tyrod Taylor not expected off injured reserve in Week 6

Houston Texans coach David Culley met with the media on Monday, the day after the team’s 25-22 loss to the New England Patriots at NRG Stadium in Week 5.

As the Texans have five games in the books, they also have their share of injuries. Culley provided an update on the players who were injured in Sunday’s game, or had a shot at coming back near the end of Week 5.

One player with particular interest is quarterback Tyrod Taylor. The Texans have been on a four-game losing streak since he went on injured reserve with a strained hamstring.

Here are the players for which Culley provided updates.

Culley said that he didn’t believe Taylor would be ready to come off of injured reserve in Week 6.

“I don’t think so,” said Culley. “Not really sure yet.”

The two-time Pro Bowl left tackle sustained a hand injury against the Patriots. Culley did not know how much time Tunsil would miss, if at all.

“Not really sure yet,” Culley said. “We will have to wait and see what the situation is on it. We don’t know that yet right now.”

Houston placed Cannon on injured reserve the day before the Week 5 encounter with the Patriots. Culley believed Cannon could have even played.

“I hope he does [return], but it’s a serious thing that he’s got,” said Culley. “He’s a tough guy. Basically, he probably could have played this week, but in order to keep him for the long haul and keep him through the season, whatever we needed to do to get him right we needed to do it now. Placing him on IR was the right thing to do for him in order to get him back later.”

Culley said that Amendola just needed another week to get ready, even though he had made progress by Friday.

“He was close this week, but by Friday, we felt like he needed to get another week to be able to get ready for us,” Culley said.
