The Washington Wizards, ahead of the regular season, brought its talents to practice Monday at Morgan State University in Baltimore.The open practice and scrimmage also included appearances by G-Wiz, the team mascot, and the Wizards Dancers.Monday marks the first open practice the team has held at a historically black college and university. It aligns with the team's effort to promote and support HBCUs in the DMV area."These are enjoyable things. You get to reach out to the community, give back to some degree, but we still, once again, it's a workday. So, we're splitting time, but we're also accomplishing two things," Wizards head coach Wes Unseld Jr. said. "I think oftentimes, (HBCUs) get overlooked, so any time we can put the spotlight on HBCUs, I think it's a great opportunity."It's also a homecoming for Baltimore-native Isaiah Todd, who is the Wizards' second-round pick in the last NBA draft."Baltimore is its own country and we're all a family. Just walking in here and seeing my cousin is the leading scorer at a university here, that just means something special. For me to be able to carry that out and play for the Wizards and come back, it's a story. That's beautiful," Todd said. "Basketball was pretty much my life growing up here, man. It's installed character in me since the time I started school and it has been something that I've been carrying with me, you know, since I left Baltimore -- everything from being a good person off the court and teaching everything that I learned to my little brother." There are two more Wizards preseason games before the season opener on Oct. 20.
