What other show would dare to introduce a new cast member in the season finale but Below Deck Mediterranean?! That’s right, during the final episode of Season 6 (now available on Peacock), we get to meet would-be cast member Chef Luka Grubisic, who spent a whole lot of time in quarantine, just in case Chef Mathew Shea stormed off the yacht again.

As the crew members are getting ready for their final night out, Captain Sandy invited Luka to come by the boat to say hi. Chef Luka strolls up and is greeted by deckhands Lloyd, David, and Mzi as they enjoyed a cigarette and then showed him inside the boat.

Captain Sandy asks how his quarantine went and he explains, “It was not actually that easy, four walls for four weeks.” As he makes his way down to the crew mess, he tells Malia, “I was back-up chef for you guys, if something goes wrong,” while Mathew puts on a tight smile and then goes to his room to avoid saying something awkward. “It’s fucking uncomfortable!” he admits in his interview.

That doesn’t stop Chef Luka, a Croatia native, from enjoying a beer with the crew. Of course Katie greets him in her typically cheerful way and puts in the effort to make small talk with him about how he spent the quarantine working out in his room. Mathew does his best to ask if he’s a Scorpio (and hey, props to him for using astrology to break the ice, can’t be mad at that) due to his tattoo, but Luka confirms that, nope, it’s a lobster and not a scorpion tattoo.

So what else did we miss out on when it comes to Chef Luka? Well, it turns out he has experience in preparing “Mediterranean, Dalmatian, and Italian dishes” and specializes in “healthy, nutritious and delicious food from all over the world.” Oh, and before he became a professional yacht chef? NBD, he just worked as a freakin’ fashion designer for over 15 years, and even collaborated with Oscar de la Renta, as well as creating his own fashion labels.

And while we may have missed out on hearing some pretty interesting stories from him, you don’t have to miss out on seeing his culinary creations, as he regularly posts them on his Instagram, @luka_chef.

There’s always next season, Luka!
