Giants RB Saquon Barkley not as injured as first feared?

As Josh Alper noted for Pro Football Talk, the New York Giants had a lousy Sunday afternoon at the Dallas Cowboys. Big Blue fell to 1-4 on the campaign and lost star running back Saquon Barkley, wide receiver Kenny Golladay and quarterback Daniel Jones to injury concerns.

It appears there's good news regarding at least one of those injuries.

According to SNY's Ralph Vacchiano, Giants head coach Joe Judge told reporters Monday that X-rays on Barkley's sprained ankle were promising:

Despite this positive update, it's widely believed Barkley will miss at least this coming Sunday's home game against the 4-1 Los Angeles Rams:

Like much of the New York offense, Barkley has largely underwhelmed and underperformed this fall coming off the torn ACL he suffered in September 2020. Thus far, he's accumulated 195 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns on 54 carries with 14 receptions for 130 yards and a single score.

Vacchiano added that Jones remains in the NFL's concussion protocol, and it's unknown if New York's QB1 will be cleared by Sunday. Golladay is being evaluated for a hyperextended knee, and his status for the Rams game likely won't be unveiled until later in the week.
