Julius Randle was away from the Knicks this past weekend, but not because of illness or contract dispute – instead, he was with his wife, Kendra, as they welcomed second son Jayce to the world.

"Amazing just to be able to grow my family, to bring our son into the world and for Kyden to become a big brother," Randle said Monday. "So it’s been a really, really positive past couple days for sure."

Even if big brother is still a little confused why dad also wants the new baby’s attention.

“He was a little bit confused, saying "Dad, why are you here?" He’s obsessed being big brother. He loves it," Randle said of Kyden. "Very protective and really just loves being big brother."

Randle returned to practice Monday, and divulged how the family celebrated the new addition: watching the Knicks’ preseason victory on Saturday.

"It was amazing, man. Obviously, you always wish you could be out there, but just to be able to watch the guys, see how our team is developing from afar…every day we’re taking steps forward to get better and it’s fun,” Randle said Monday as he returned to the team. “It’s also fun when you’re watching from home, you hear the commentary, you hear (head coach Tom Thibodeau’s) voice. So I heard a lot of Thibs screaming, up 20. That was good to hear from afar, too. I enjoyed it."

Randle was more easily able to be home for the birth of his second child, as he was with the Lakers in Miami when Kyden was born and had to fly cross-country to be there.

A little easier to get home, but then again, a lot easier to escape the chaos and get back to work, too.

"He could probably use a day off," Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau laughed. "But he was upbeat, obviously. It’s good to have him back."
