There was a lot of focus on Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Collin Sexton this offseason. The No. 8 overall pick from the 2018 NBA Draft is eligible for a contract extension, but the two sides weren’t close on a deal. As a result, they were reportedly open to trade offers for him.

Numerous teams emerged as potential landing spots. The New York Knicks and Miami Heat were mentioned most prominently. The Los Angeles Lakers were also mentioned a few times.

Ultimately, Sexton stayed put. He and the Cavaliers have until October 18th to hammer out a deal, otherwise, he will be heading for restricted free agency next summer.

If that occurs, it is anyone’s guess what will happen. The Cavaliers would have the right to match any offer sheet that he signs, but allowing players to hit restricted free agency is always a risky proposition. Especially players that are 23-years old that average in the mid-’20s for points per game.

Sexton can certainly fill it up from the point guard spot. He can score from multiple levels on the court, as he is explosive at the rim and has a good shooting touch. His playmaking and point guard decision-making needs some work, but Sexton will garner a sizable contract from his scoring prowess.

A former NBA executive believes that Sexton trade talk will pick up again during the season. If that occurs, where may he be traded to? Let’s take a look at this hypothetical deal that would land him in the Big Apple with the Knicks.
