In the latest TV show ratings, CBS‘ Sunday dramas are all eyeballing steady returns, pending possible adjustment due to NFL overrun in some markets.
The Equalizer, for one, opened its sophomore run with 7.5 million total viewers and a 0.7 demo rating, right on par with Season 1’s regularly scheduled outings and leading Sunday’s entertainment fare in total audience. TVLine readers gave the premiere an average grade of “A.”
NCIS: LA‘s season opener (5.9 mil/0.6) also matched its previous averages, as did SEAL Team (3.9 mil/0.5) in its brand new (if temporary) time slot.
NBC Sunday Night Football (16.5 mil/4.8) was down sharply from last week’s preliminary numbers, yet of course led the night across the board.
Elsewhere:
THE CW | The Legends of the Hidden Temple reboot debuted to 280K and a 0.1 (TVLine reader grade “C+”), followed by Killer Camp‘s Season 2 opener with 170K (eek!) and a 0.0.
ABC | The Rookie (2.6 mil/0.3) dipped to a new audience low while steady in the demo.
FOX | The Simpsons’ latest “Treehouse of Horror” drew 3.8 mil/1.2 leading out of football, followed by The Great North‘s 2 mil/0.7, Bob’s Burgers‘ 1.8 mil/0.7 and Family Guy‘s 1.6 mil/0.5.

The Live+Same Day numbers reported in our ratings column do not reflect a show’s overall performance, given the increased use of delayed playback via DVR and streaming platforms, plus out-of-home viewing. These numbers (Nielsen fast nationals, unless denoted as finals) instead aim to simply illustrate trends or superlatives. Warning: Contents may be hot!
CWs Sunday lineup is a fail
The CW can no longer get even a million live viewers for nothing. Excluding, Walker S1 and Superman & Lois S1. All live ratings have dropped, but their ish has gone down the drain completely. But I know they look to streaming and some DVR playback more than any of the big four.
These are just cheap no budget filler shows designed to fill in gaps in the schedule. It doesn’t matter hugely if they don’t get big numbers.
The CW weekend reality TV experiment is a failure for Sunday but actually a success (by their standards) for Saturday…preliminaries have their Saturday shows doing more than double their Sunday shows in the mid 600k audience range, above a large portion of their scripted, and in line with the rest with a 0.1.
I think they’ll stick with it, at least Hidden Temple, until Christmas but I bet they can’t wait to put their scripted shows back on there in midseason.
Time for Rookie to be shown the door. Also, sure was hard to delete SEAL from the dvr list. Enjoyed the ride.
Well put
CW should have stuck with scripted shows on Sunday
if last nights ep was an indicator of the next 3. Before the big hop to P+, theybgonna have to up their game, I don’t see a lot of people paying for more streaming…. and for others it’s not an option…the writing and casting changes have negatively affected this show….
When fewer people watch a show than can fit into the University of Michigan football stadium even the CW will cancel it, right?
Given tonight’s news, I see NCIS: Hawaii hopping over to follow LA before the season’s end.
So Hetty makes a cameo and is off to Syria. That’s the last we’ll see of her this season. Beale and Nell are gone. Fatima is ok and not much more. Roundtree adds nothing to the mix. Callen is one step from being insane.
With Mark Harmon’s departure from the mothership and NCIS-NO already gone, CBS better start lining up replacements.
NCIS-Hawaii is so bad it is not worth mentioning.
You summed it up pretty good.
The Rookie seems to be a bit unsteady creatively so far this season
Most of the shows I watch are uninspiring…..glad I’ve got books…..ST was my favorite show but its been in a steady decline for a couple of seasons…..
I stopped trying to record the equalizer because 60 minutes keeps going into her hour and then cuts off the ending. I just go online to cbs.com and watch the program there and hope that it counts towards her ratings! She is awesome in this role as well as her coworkers and happy that this TV series was created from the initial equalizer movies.
