U.S. Open Qualifier Isaac Fleig Verbally Commits to Kentucky for 2023

NEW COMMIT: After already scoring four verbal commitments on the women’s side, the University of Kentucky men’s program has landed its first one for the fall of 2023 from U.S. Open qualifier Isaac Fleig.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at the University of Kentucky. A special thanks goes to my coaches, teammates, and parents who have pushed me to become the swimmer I am today. Go CATS!”

Currently training with Mission Viejo Nadadores, Fleig had a great showing at the Speedo Summer West Championships where he placed eighth in the 1500m free, ninth in the 400m IM, and 11th in both the 200m fly and 800m free. Back in March, he earned six best times at the NCSA Championships en route to taking sixth in the mile with four additional top-16 finishes.

Also competing for Cedarburg High School when he lived in Wisconsin, Fleig won the 200 IM and 500 free at the Wisconsin DI State Championships as a sophomore while taking second and first, respectively, in those events during his freshman season.

1650 free – 15:29.29
200 fly – 1:49.03
200 IM – 1:52.63
400 IM – 3:56.73

In LCM, his best times include:

400m free – 4:07.70
800m free – 8:23.49
1500m free – 15:51.54
200m fly – 2:03.04
200m IM – 2:08.76
400m IM – 4:28.27

Under head coach Lars Jorgensen, the Wildcats finished seventh at the 2021 SEC Championships with 759 points. Their point total surpassed the previous program record of 724 points scored the year prior and was the fifth consecutive year the men’s team has bested the school mark.

Kentucky is in an excellent position to continue moving up the rankings this season, as five of the eight relay swimmers, 11 of the 15 point scorers, and 330 of the 559 individual points scored are back in Lexington once again.

The Wildcats also have Phillip Khenner, Sean Mackey, Drew Johnson, Kevin Glennon, Levi Sandidge, Ryan Merani, Brady McInerney, Logan Smith and Logan Ingerick joining the program in 2022.
