Ghostbusters Star Bill Murray Rumored to Join Ant-Man 3

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will mark the next adventure of Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Hope van Dyne/Wasp. While most of the main cast members from the previous films as well as Kathryn Newton and Jonathan Majors have been confirmed to be part of the upcoming installment, it turns out that there may be one legendary comedian who might be making an appearance.

According to a report from ComicBook.com, Ghostbusters star Bill Murray is rumored to be part of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The speculation came after an actor named John Townsend was cast to be a photo double of the actor in a project called "Dust Bunny," the production name for the film. The screenshot of the casting can be seen on Cosmic Circus.

In case you don't know, a photo double is someone who closely resembles an actor that they are standing in for. Per the definition of Central Casting, they "can be used when a principal actor is in a scene but is not the focus and is essentially functioning as a Background Actor. Since the photo double looks like the actor from a distance, they can film in the actor's place while they prepare for other scenes."

Murray's casting has not been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios nor the major trades so take this news with a grain of salt. This is just a sign that the actor might be appearing in the film. After all, they won't cast someone to be a photo double if the actor won't be making an appearance at all. If Murray is really part of the film, Marvel is certainly keeping the casting under wraps for a time being.

It is exciting to hear the possibility of Murray joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But who will he be playing? Will it be a well-known Marvel Comics character? If you look at the actor's earlier works, he voiced the Human Torch in a Fantastic Four radio series back in 1975 so it would be a good guess that he could be playing a version of the character in another universe.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set to be released in theaters on February 17, 2023.
