Mercedes-Benz U.S. International is hiring 700 hundred full-time employees for its plant in Vance.

These new jobs start at $20 an hour.

West Alabama Works Executive Director Donny Jones said Tuscaloosa is now the No. 3 community in Alabama providing a livable wage for families.

“What that is showing us is the investment of these industries, the growth of these industries is helping our community grow,” Jones said. “It’s helping families because salaries are increasing. That means family income is increasing, spending is increasing, so it grows our community, it’s a win-win for everyone.

By next year, Alabama will be the No. 2 automotive producing state in the country.

“With Honda, Hyundai, Mazda Toyota, Mercedes-Benz and Toyota engines, Alabama is really becoming a force when it comes to automotive jobs,” Jones said. “This is just another success for our state.”

Nearly 50% of Alabama’s skilled trade workers are nearing retirement age, meaning now is the perfect time for more people learning a trade, Jones said.
