Report: Raphael Varane 'Doubtful' For Huge Manchester United And Liverpool Clash

Frenchman Raphael Varane is a doubt for the huge Premier League clash when Liverpool visit Old Trafford to play Manchester United on 24th October.

The 28 year old central defender came off injured in the UEFA Nations League final in Milan, Italy.

Varane pulled up whilst he was running with what looked like a muscle injury in the 43rd minute of the clash with Spain.

He was immediately substituted and replaced by Dayot Upamecano but this is another blow for Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who has also been missing Harry Maguire with a calf injury.

France went on to win the Nations League trophy with a 2-1 victory over Spain with the controversial winner coming from Kylian Mbappe.

Varane has started five of United's Premier League matches so far this season in a defence that has only conceded six goals in seven games - the same as Liverpool.

Whilst many have been questioning Solskjaer and the form of the Red Devils they sit two points off the top behind leaders Chelsea and one point behind Liverpool.

Last season, Liverpool went to Old Trafford needing a win to keep their Champions League hopes alive with the resurgent Reds team coming away with a 4-2 victory.

Jurgen Klopp will be hoping to expose once again any defensive frailties that United have should Maguire and/or Varane be missing.
