Giants-Cowboys Week 5: Offense, defense and special teams snap counts

The New York Giants fell to the Dallas Cowboys, 44-20, on Sunday afternoon but the game wasn’t the worst thing they lost.

The Giants, already down wide receivers Sterling Shepard (hamstring) and Darius Slayton (hamstring) and safety Jabrill Peppers (hamstring), lost several more key players to injury.

Running back Saquon Barkley suffered an ankle injury, quarterback Daniel Jones a concussion, wide receiver Kenny Golladay a knee injury, rookie cornerback Rodarius Williams a knee injury and rookie wide receiver Kadarius Toney a number of issues.

There is a lot to unpack from Sunday’s loss but before we get to that, here’s a breakdown of the snap counts that contributed to the Week 5 defeat:

Offensive snaps: 68
Defensive snaps: 78
Special teams snaps: 30

Obviously the snap counts are going to be skewed a bit due to all of the injuries and an ejection on Sunday afternoon. Of note was the Wes Martin and Matt Skura rotation at left guard.

Defensively, Carter Coughlin playing less than Reggie Ragland is becoming eyebrow-raising. Although Ragland’s box score numbers looked good in Week 5, he didn’t play well to the naked eye.

Cornerback Darnay Holmes receiving just one defensive snap is also somewhat alarming considering how poorly the unit is playing as whole.
