Kristian Winfield: The Nets have officially waived Edmond Sumner, who they received from the Indiana Pacers.
Nets Daily: Official: Trade of Juan Pablo Vaulet's draft rights to Pacers for Edmond Sumner and a Heat second in 2025. Nets will waive Sumner. At the end of the day, following this and Doumbouya trade, Nets save $8.1 million in taxes/salary and essentially swapped a 2024 second for a 2025.
Alex Schiffer: I can confirm @Adrian Wojnarowski’s report that the Nets are acquiring Edmond Sumner and a 2025 second round pick (via the Heat) from the Pacers. The Nets will waive Sumner, who tore his Achilles this summer.
Bobby Marks: Indiana gets much needed relief below the luxury tax with this trade. The Pacers go from $514K below to $2.8M. $2.3M cap hit on Sumner in Brooklyn.
Adrian Wojnarowski: The Nets will waive Sumner, who is out for the season with a knee injury, source tells ESPN.
Tony East: I asked Kevin Pritchard about Edmond Sumner’s team option, which the Pacers have to decide on by tomorrow: “Ed will be back with the team. He had a great year.”
Tony East: "I want to be a Pacer, I love the Pacers... I'm a loyal guy," Edmond Sumner says. He has a team option this offseason, though I find it impossible to believe the Pacers wouldn't pick it up and keep him around next season.
Expect the Pacers to exercise the $2.3 million team option of Edmond Sumner by Aug. 1. In 53 games this season, Sumner averaged 7.5 points on 39.8% from 3. According to ProFitX, Sumner has outplayed his $2.1 million contract for the 2020-21 season by a remarkable $8 million.
Scott Agness: Pacers guard Edmond Sumner signed his new three-year deal this morning. His strange left foot injury has cleared up and he’s eager to compete for a spot in the rotation. He’ll soon take part in the NBA’s rookie transition period.
Scott Agness: Also, with the Pacers guaranteeing Alize Johnson’s contract for next season, they now have 11 players under contract and two more needing to sign: T.J. McConnell and Edmond Sumner. Two (of 15) roster spots open.
Scott Agness: Pacers declined the $1.6 million team option for Edmond Sumner and extended a qualifying offer, league sources tell @The Athletic. The two sides have been working towards a multi-year agreement. Sumner, who can play the 1/2/3, isn’t going anywhere.
