Editor’s Note: On September 19th candidates in the November 2nd General Election for Mayor, Everett City Council Districts, Everett School Board and Port of Everett Commissioner were invited to send a statement up to 500 words to MyEverettNews.com introducing themselves to our readers. Not all of the candidates responded but we are publishing unedited statements from those that did reply by our deadline. MyEverettNews.com does not endorse candidates but thinks this is a good way for you to hear directly from the people running. All offices are non-partisan.
Scott Murphy For Port of Everett CommissionerCandidate Statement: The Port of Everett helps generate over 39,000 jobs, both on the waterfront and throughout the region (including direct and indirect jobs) in support of commerce, economic development, international trade and expansion of recreational opportunities for public use.
The Port Commission’s obligation to provide effective financial leadership and planning is crucial to meeting the Port’s responsibilities. I believe my diverse background and business experience is relevant to serving as an effective Port Commissioner. This position is not about politics, it’s about overseeing the Port’s multi-million dollar waterfront businesses and its assets. Having to balance municipal and corporate budgets, I understand the importance of maintaining core services through careful management of the Port’s resources.
We have numerous opportunities at the Port as we emerge from the pandemic. I’m committed to supporting international trade and creating waterfront related jobs, completion of Waterfront Place for public enjoyment, leadership on sustainable environmental practices, and ensuring fiscal responsibility. It’s your money and I will make that every dollar is spent wisely and with transparency!
Thank you for your consideration and be sure to Vote on November 2nd!
