Opera Zuid to Open 2021-22 Season with ‘Roméo et Juliette’

On Nov. 12, the Netherland’s Opera Zuid will open a production of Gounod’s “Roméo & Juliette.”

The production will premiere in Maastrichand and will tour until Dec. 11, 2021. Swiss director Julien Chavaz will direct the new production that will hone in on the clash between individual emotion and social context. The philharmonie zuidnederland will be conducted by the Austrian conductor Philipp Pointner.

The leading roles will be performed by Dutch tenor Peter Gijsbertsen as Romeo and Russian soprano Anna Emelianova as Juliette.

Performances will be held at Maastricht, Theater Rotterdam, Schouwburg De Domijnen, Sittard, Parkstad Limburg Theaters Heerlen, Parktheater Eindhoven, Theaters Tilburg, Chassé Theater, Breda, Amare, Den Haag, Stadsschouwburg Utrecht, and Theater a/h Vrijthof, Maast.
