Nevada soccer scores three goals in second half to beat Aztecs

After tying the New Mexico Lobos on Friday, the Nevada Wolf Pack soccer team took on the San Diego State Aztecs, which saw the team come back to win this matchup 3-2.

The game started off with the Aztecs coming out hot. The team would score two goals from one of their freshmen. Denise Castro scored her seventh goal in the season within the first 20 minutes, but wouldn’t be the last as she scored her eighth nine minutes later. That half was slow for the Pack, as they came out with four shots. Senior Kendal Stovall recorded one save.

While some may have counted the Pack out, they would not give up in the second half. In the first five minutes of play, junior Luz Arreaga scored her first goal of the season to cut the lead one. Freshman Emily Rich would assist that goal. The tying goal would come from a penalty kick from freshman Penny Murphy with 13 minutes left.

With the game tied, two minutes left, the Pack were able to make history on Sunday. With assists from Rich and freshman Caly Ah Soon, sophomore Olivia Fothergill would score the winning goal. This come from behind victory giving the Pack their second conference win, and their first win against the Aztecs in school history.

Nevada soccer improves their regular season record to 3-8-2, and their conference record to 2-2-2. The Pack will head on the road for their final two road conference matchups next weekend.
