Lee Carsley Provides Curtis Jones Injury Update

The England U21 manager is still unsure of Jones will be fit enough to play against Andorra. If there is any question, he will be left out to let him recover ahead of Liverpool’s match with Watford next weekend.

For the second season in a row, Curtis Jones has stepped into a prominent role for Liverpool as player after player has gone down with injuries. And for the second season in a row, the Scouser has stepped in and impressed. The 20 year old midfielder has scored on and provided three assists across six games in all competitions so far this year.

Last week, Liverpool fans were given a fresh worry as Jones was left out of an England U21 match against Slovenia with what was termed as a “knock”. No other information was provided as to the severity of the knock, or how it happened.

Lee Carsley, the England U21 manager, has now provided a little more context as to what happened, as well as the severity of Jones’ injury in his press conference ahead of a match with Andorra. Carsley confirmed that Jones sustained a groin injury during training with his international team. The good news is it seems like Jones could be very close to returning, and has not been ruled out for the match with Andorra.

“We’re waiting to see how he reacts this morning, he’ll have some treatment again,” said Carsley about Curtis Jones.

“After the game, we definitely won’t be taking any risks and putting the players at risk of potentially them missing their games for the weekend. So we’ll assess Curtis this morning and make that decision a bit later.”

Thankfully it seems that the national team is going to be very careful with Curtis as to not push him and potentially risk him missing out in the match against Watford next weekend. Thiago is expected to be back and healthy for the match, but Fabinho will be missing due to a game late in the week for Brazil. Curtis Jones, who has been starting ahead of Naby Keita, would be expected to start if healthy.
