Auburn Examiner

A New Normal

For months I have been trying to put into words what I have been dealing grappling – often struggling – with for over a year now. I vaguely referenced what I’ve been dealing with in an April post. I couldn’t write more then. I still can’t.

I will share that I was diagnosed with a neurological disorder in June. I am not handling it well.

I wish being diagnosed with a life-altering medical diagnosis was the only thing I was wading through. It’s not.

Each day my depression and anxiety fight for which one gets to be in the driver’s seat. Trauma rides shotgun.

So, why am I sharing this with a bunch of readers on a local news site?

Because though depression, anxiety, and trauma may currently be in charge of the radio, hope remains secured safely in the trunk.

Today is World Mental Health Day. What have you done to benefit your mental health?

In an effort to put my mental health first, I am permitting myself to reduce the amount and what the Auburn Examiner publishes.

I am the primary writer and researcher for the Auburn Examiner. I am also the only editor. I handle all aspects of owning and managing the Auburn Examiner. I do not get paid to run the Auburn Examiner.

The other members of the Auburn Examiner all have full-time jobs and/or are students.

Why am I telling you this? Because I can not sustain the level of work I was doing if I want a future for the Auburn Examiner. I want a future for the Auburn Examiner.

With that, at this time, we will publish a minimum of twice a week. There will likely be delays in our coverage of events and incidents.

We will strive to provide as-it-happens updates and information for serious incidents. We will do our best to provide updates on stories we publish and serious incidents we provide coverage of.

If we have not or do not cover an incident, event, or individual, there was no motive or specific reason behind the decision. I apologize if you were looking for coverage or we missed something. It will happen again, so please accept my apologies for future absences of coverage.

There are several stories that research has been done for, but the article hasn’t yet been written, and articles written and not yet edited. I am extremely grateful to those who are involved with this content for their patience and understanding.

Thank you for your continued support of the Auburn Examiner as we/I go through this adjustment period to the new normal.  The AE you know and love will be back to our regularly scheduled programming, I’m just not going to rush it or myself.

Take care of yourself. Don’t forget to stretch. Drink your water. Remember to breathe. Don’t Doomscroll. Unclench your jaw. Check on your friends. Take care of each other.
