Conor McGregor praises Fury vs. Wilder trilogy for ‘real’ ending — unlike his trilogy with Dustin Poirier

The Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder trilogy came to a close on Saturday night from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and it ended with bang as Fury knocked out Wilder in the 11th round. The final tally on the three fights: 2-0-1 for Tyson Fury.

All three fights were wildly entertaining, which is something of a rarity when it comes to heavyweight fights. I don’t know anyone who watched the fights that did not enjoy them, even if Fury did force the referee to pull both fighters out of a stalled clinch multiple times through the fight. Amongst the people who liked what they saw: former UFC champ champ and occassional boxer himself, Conor McGregor. The Mac took to Twitter to share his admiration for both fighters (and throw some shade at his own trilogy partner Dustin Poirer).

“I love when it gets set for certain and both have an honorable showing,” McGregor wrote. “Not the fam in the ring fake celebrating after a freak injury etc etc you know the gig, God bless the real in this world.”

Of course it was Dustin Poirier who dishonored their trilogy by ‘fake celebrating’ ... it wasn’t McGregor for screaming about Poirier’s wife and declaring he’d murder Dustin’s whole family. Nothing dishonorable about that at all.

Everything else though was on point enough, especially McGregor taking the time to big up Deontay and his fiancée. There’s always going to be a winner and a loser when it comes to combat sports, but in this case Wilder deserves a lot of credit for his guts and tenacity in this one. And if he isn’t going to get credit from everyone, hey ... at least he gets the cheese.
