CINCINNATI — Cincinnati Bengals starting quarterback Joey Burrow checked out of the hospital on Sunday night and is expected to practice with no limitations this week, according to coach Zac Taylor during the Bengals' weekly Monday press conference.
Burrow suffered a throat contusion during the game. Taylor said it became more of an issue for him through the end of the game as he began having trouble speaking. According to Taylor, Burrow had left for the hospital as Taylor was giving his post-game press conference after a 25-22 overtime loss to the Green Bay Packers.
"I think as the game went on it became more of an issue," Taylor said.
Taylor was asked if he knew when Burrow suffered the injury. He said he had looked back and could see a couple of instances when he could have been hit in the neck, but couldn't narrow down in which play he was hurt. Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com said the team believed Burrow had been poked in the throat.
"I tried to pinpoint when it happened," Taylor said. "There are two or three times you could say he could have been hit in the neck. He doesn't know when it happened. As the night went on, (his throat) was better and it felt even better when he woke up this morning.
The team said the hospital visit was precautionary and he was released later on Sunday. Taylor said Burrow has no limitations in practice this week and will play at Detroit.
Burrow finished Sunday's game 22-of-38 for 281 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He was sacked three times. Ja'Marr Chase had six receptions for 159 yards and a 70-yard touchdown catch.
The Bengals could have won the game, but kicker Evan McPherson missed a long field goal. Green Bay managed to kick the game-winner to move to 4-1 this season. The Bengals fell to 3-2 and will visit Detroit on Sunday.
