Lionel Messi has spoken about who he believes can win the Champions League this season. The Argentine superstar mentioned a number of teams including his own team PSG but failed to mention Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

Messi's Contenders

In a recent interview in French magazine L'Equipe, Messi gave his views on who he sees as the main threat to PSG's chances of winning their first European Cup.

The 34 year old did not mention the Reds however he did include other Premier League teams that he thinks are in contention.

“It is true that the centre of attention is on PSG, but there are other very strong teams,"

"Chelsea, the Manchester teams, Real Madrid, who always responds, Inter, Bayern.

Messi went on to explain that PSG still need time to gel as a team.

“We have great individuals, but we still have to know each other well to form a team. To win important titles you have to play as a team."

“That is what makes me say that we are still one step back compared to all these clubs, who have more collective experience than us.”

Champions League - Anfield 2019

Liverpool fans will want to remind Messi of that night at Anfield in 2019 which saw their team demolish the Spanish side 4-0 and overturn a 3-0 first leg defect on route to winning the trophy

LFCTR Verdict

It may or may not be intentional but Liverpool are surely in with a shout of going a long way in this season's Champions League. One thing is for sure, Messi will not want to experience another night like he encountered in 2019.
