The last two seasons in the NFL for New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley have been marred by injuries. And now, he may have suffered a notable injury over the early stages of this season.

Barkley left the Giants' road matchup against the Dallas Cowboys in the first half due to an ankle injury. The Giants running back suffered the injury after rolling up his ankle on Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis.

Barkley immediately fell to the ground and did not need assistance in walking off the field, but rather limped his way to the sidelines.

He was later carted off to the locker room and ruled as out for the remainder of the game.

A closer look at Barkley’s ankle shows that this may be an injury that could keep him out of action for a while.

More information on Barkley’s ankle injury is expected to be available after the game.

For now, the Giants will need to count on Devontae Booker to be the new feature back for the team in the meantime. He came into the game with a mere 22 rushing yards from seven rush attempts, both of which are lower than quarterback Daniel Jones' total through the team's opening four games of the season (188 rushing yards from 27 rush attempts).

In the big picture, the Giants could very well use a winning streak at this point in the season following their 1-3 start to the campaign. More so, Jones will need to continue to step up his play with Barkley now out due to his ankle injury.
