Celtic could sign Jota for less than option to buy clause

It is safe to say that Jota has enjoyed a good start to life at Celtic. Coming through the youth ranks at Benfica, he was one of the most highly-rated talents in all of Europe and at one point of time, he was heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid.

It is safe to say that things did not go as expected for Jota at the senior level. He was not able to find a footing in the Benfica first-team and his loan spell at Real Valladolid was not great as well. He is looking like a different player at Celtic though.

Jota has always been known for his incredible ability with the ball at this feet. But recently, he has been showing that he can be effective in front of goal as well. He scored the winner for the Hoops against Aberdeen before the international break, in what was their first league win away from home in a long time. It is safe to say that the Portuguese youngster has been an exciting addition to this team.

One man who knows a thing or two about exciting Celtic fans is Jorge Cadete. His time at the club might have been short but it was memorable. And he appears to have been impressed by Jota but feels that the Hoops could be able to sign him for a transfer fee lower than the option to buy a little over £6 million that has been mentioned. As reported by the Daily Record, Cadete said:

"“It’s too early to talk about the value of Jota if Celtic want to buy him. It’s normal for clubs when they loan a young player abroad, they fix the buy clause at a high price.“Jota has been mentioned at six or seven million Euros.“But after the season, this figure is normally not the same as it was before. It might well be lower than that by then.“I’d like Jota to stay at Celtic in the long-term because I think it can be good for both parties. The Celtic supporters have an exciting player so it keeps them happy.“And for the player he can develop even more in Scotland for the next two or three years. He can show all the qualities he has.”"

Will Celtic sign Jota in the upcoming summer?

There is no doubt about the fact that Jota has impressed ever since arriving at Celtic. He looks like a very good player who has already become important in Ange Postecoglou’s side.

If he can continue to perform like this then the Hoops would be expected to try to sign him at the end of his loan deal and his impressive displays might lead to them having to shell out the entire option to buy fee.

Of course, if that kind of a situation came up, it would then all come down to Jota on whether he wants to remain at Celtic beyond this season or not.

More. Celtic appear to have made Patryk Klimala mistake. light
