Conor McGregor lauds Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder for ‘great heavyweight trilogy,’ takes shot at Dustin Poirier

Even if Conor McGregor was among many in the combat sports world who were left impressed by the dramatic conclusion to Tyson Fury vs. Deotany Wilder 3 on Saturday night, he still couldn’t help but take a parting shot at his own trilogy rival, Dustin Poirier.

McGregor lauded Fury and Wilder for their all-time great battle in their trilogy match, which saw both men trade several early knockdowns before Fury finished Wilder with an 11th-round knockout to pull even farther ahead in the series 2-0-1.

In doing so, McGregor also took a swipe at Poirier — and again brought Poirier’s family into the conversation — for the manner in which Poirier celebrated his win over McGregor in the twosome’s rubber match at UFC 264. Poirier defeated McGregor via doctor’s stoppage at the conclusion of the first round due to McGregor breaking his leg. The American was dominating the contest up until the time of the stoppage and has now won back-to-back fights over McGregor in 2021 after losing to the Irishman via first-round knockout in 2014.

“A great heavyweight trilogy that was,” McGregor wrote Sunday on Twitter. “I love when it gets set for certain and both have an honorable showing. Not the fam in the ring fake celebrating after a freak injury etc etc you know the gig, God bless the real in this world.”

McGregor is still recovering from the injuries he suffered at UFC 264 and is tentatively expected to return to action sometime in 2022.

Great fight that. Both warriors, both winners. Hard to not be impressed with Deontay there. Against the much larger man and almost got it done. Great fight. 40lb’s in weight difference is A LOT. Fair play both men there, very enjoyable fights they have had together. Respect.

Their skill levels are unique but very close. A great heavyweight trilogy that was. I love when it gets set for certain and both have an honorable showing. Not the fam in the ring fake celebrating after a freak injury etc etc you know the gig, God bless the real in this world.

Congrats Tyson and Paris. Me and Dee are so happy for you and the kids. Congrats Deontay and Telli also. Was great meeting you guys recently. A real proud showing that was, and could have went either way. Amazing! Happy Sunday now today with the cheddar and the memory’s God bless
