LeBron James details how Lakers are adjusting to new offensive system

With the Los Angeles Lakers adding 11 new faces to the guaranteed roster, with most being offensive-minded, the team has implemented a new system.

It’ll revolve around the star trio of LeBron James, Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis, but the Lakers picked up multiple ball-handlers and capable isolation scorers in Kendrick Nunn, Carmelo Anthony, Malik Monk and others to relieve the offensive burden on the big three.

Talen Horton-Tucker is also making impressive strides through three games after being re-signed to a three-year deal.

Despite the Lakers’ offense so far not looking cohesive, which was expected early on, James detailed what’s been going on on that end of the floor.

“We pretty much have got a whole new offensive system this year that we’ve been working through over our practices since training camp started,” James said. “It’s an adjustment for us offensively, just having guys in different positions, having guys in different places on the floor with our new look and what we’re trying to do.”

The 36-year-old star emphasized the potential of the system and how ball movement instead of isolation drives will be key.

“It’s going to be a process for us, but I think it will be better off for us in the long run. It keeps the ball moving from one side to another,” James said. “Not much with a dribble but more with a pass. And obviously, we’ve got downhill attackers with Russ, K. Nunn, myself and Talen.”

The sample size through three games is certainly small, and it doesn’t help that James, Westbrook and Davis have yet to get on the court simultaneously. Once that happens, the players can start ironing out any wrinkles in the system to make a run for title No. 18.
