Patryk Klimala arrived at Celtic in early 2020 with a lot of expectations. He was very highly-rated in Poland but appeared to go through a tough time at Parkhead. He never quite managed to get a consistent run of games in the first-team and a little over a year later, he ended up joining the New York Red Bulls.

It must be said though that Klimala has been impressive since moving to the MLS. Recently, he scored the winner for the New York Red Bulls against David Beckham’s Inter Miami.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 8 goals and provided 5 assists in 24 appearances for New York Red Bulls, which have combined for a total 1735 minutes of football.

That means that Klimala has a goal contribution every 133 minutes or so. That is very solid and Celtic could have done with a striker like him at this point of time.

Did Celtic make a mistake letting Klimala leave too early?

Klimala had never quite gotten a lot of playing time at Celtic. At the start of the previous season, it had looked like things could change in that regard after he had undergone a physical transformation and looked more ready for the challenges of Scottish football.

But that didn’t happen despite a bright pre-season campaign and he got minutes only here and there. In fact, according to stats from Transfermarkt, Klimala only played 681 minutes of football during his time with Celtic.

He departed the club before the end of the 2020/21 campaign and has gone on to enjoy a decent time since then. On the other hand, there appears to be a lack of options up front for Celtic right now.

Kyogo has done a spectacular job since coming in and is without doubt the club’s first-choice striker but beyond him, there does not appear to be anyone in form at the moment. Thus, Postecoglou could probably have done with someone like Klimala in his squad right now.
