After spending the last fifteen years in the National Hockey League with the New York Islanders and Detroit Red Wings, Danish forward Frans Nielsen has signed a one-year contract with Eisbaren Berlin in Germany's top division, the DEL.
"My family and I are looking forward to Berlin. I was only told positive things about the Eisbären Berlin, their fans and the city. In addition, I have the opportunity with the Eisbären to play for the championship," Nielsen said.
"When the opportunity arose to sign Frans, we had to take advantage of it. He's a top player who adds even more depth to our squad. Frans is not only a reinforcement for our offence, but for the entire Berlin team. With his vast experience, he will help us to achieve our goals," said Eisbären sports director Stéphane Richer.
Nielsen, 37, had the remaining year of his contract bought out in August by the Red Wings, which made him an unrestricted free agent.
