Report: 'Ibou Is Settling In Good' - Liverpool's Joel Matip Talks Ibrahima Konate

When Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp signed Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig in the summer for over £30million, it was unclear what this meant for the future of Joel Matip.

Defensive Partnership

Fast forward a few weeks however and Matip has re-formed his central defensive partnership with Dutch colossus Virgil van Dijk and appears to be the Jurgen Klopp's favoured partner for the £75million defender.

France under 21 international has time on his side however and the form of Matip and van Dijk has meant he can take his time getting to grips with life at Anfield.

Early Days At Liverpool

Matip explained how the young Frenchman was settling in.

“Ibou is settling in really good. It always takes some time to settle in general and in the defence to get a good connection. It needs time before I know how he will react and he will know how I react.”

“We have trained a lot together and it will always need some time next to a new player, but he is already going really well."

“Everybody has the same idea of football in how we defend, but of course everybody reacts a little bit differently so you need to get adapted. We always have to make some small adaptations. But the idea of how we play, and how we defend, always stays the same.”

LFCTR Verdict

Konate was bought as a long term prospect and to provide healthy competition. He showed in pre-season and with his performances against Crystal Palace and Norwich what he will bring to the team when he is inevitably called upon.
