BOSTON -- Kyle Schwarber is once again starting at first base and Bobby Dalbec is on the bench for the Red Sox in Game 3 of the ALDS against the Rays on Sunday afternoon.
Schwarber is leading off and making his second straight start at first with J.D. Martinez in the lineup as the designated hitter, batting sixth. The only change from the lineup that tallied 20 hits in Game 2 is at catcher, where Kevin Plawecki subs in for Christian Vázquez in the No. 8 spot.
Dalbec was one of the hottest hitters in baseball after the All-Star break, hitting .269 with 15 homers and a .955 OPS in 61 second-half games. Despite that, Cora said it’s an easy decision to play Schwarber at first base against right-handed starters like Tampa Bay’s Drew Rasmussen.
“This is how we’re built and it gives us a chance... we’ve got him on the bench,” Cora said. “This is our best offensive lineup against right-handed pitching and we’re not going to deviate from that.”
The best-of-five ALDS is tied, 1-1, after Boston and Tampa Bay split the first two games at Tropicana Field. Sunday’s first pitch is scheduled for 4:07 p.m. ET. The game is being aired on MLB Network.
