Toronto Maple Leafs

Ilya Mikheyev is expected to be out of the lineup for the immediate future after injuring his hand against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.
"We'll know more on Monday," Maple Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe said. "But it's not looking like it will be short term."
The 27-year-old forward left in the first period of a 4-1 preseason victory Saturday and did not return for the second. He was replaced by Michael Bunting on the wing with John Tavares and William Nylander.

New York Rangers

Ryan Strome is expected to be ready for the Rangers when they visit the Washington Capitals in their season opener Wednesday (7:30 p.m. ET; TNT).
The center was injured with one second remaining in the second period after colliding with New York Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield in a preseason game Saturday. Strome had a goal and an assist in a 5-4 overtime win in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
"He's going to be fine," coach Gerard Gallant said. "Just the upper body, but nothing too serious we don't think."
Forward Kevin Rooney left with an apparent injury in the third period following an altercation with Islanders forward Ross Johnston.
"A punch in the mouth, a bleeding lip," Gallant said. "Nothing serious there at all."

Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes are optimistic Vincent Trocheck will be ready for opening night against the New York Islanders on Thursday (7 p.m. ET; TVAS, BSSO, MSG+, ESPN+, NHL LIVE).
The forward was placed on injured reserve Saturday with an injury sustained during the Red-White scrimmage Oct. 3. He has yet to be cleared for game action.

New Jersey Devils

Mackenzie Blackwood practiced Sunday after clearing COVID-19 testing protocol.
The 24-year-old goalie had been isolated the past three days since two of his COVID-19 test results came back inconclusive. He is still recovering from offseason heel surgery and dealing with discomfort along with a lack of strength and mobility.
Blackwood was held out of a scheduled start against the New York Islanders on Oct. 7 as a precaution because of an inconclusive COVID-19 test. He said he is leaning toward getting the vaccine, explaining it doesn't have anything to do with the past few days and more about discussions he's had with family and friends.
He is the only player for the Devils not to be vaccinated for the virus.
"I'm probably going to be getting the shot in the next couple of weeks," Blackwood told the Devils website. "It's nice that (current test) came back negative and I'm back with the team, and business as usual."
Backup goalie Jonathan Bernier skated on his own. Devils coach Lindy Ruff said Bernier is working through some maintenance and will be back with us in a couple days."
Though defenseman P.K. Subban left practice early, Ruff said he doesn't think it's anything serious.
Forward Jimmy Vesey signed a one-year, $800,000 contract. He was in training camp since agreeing to a professional tryout contract Sept. 14.

Minnesota Wild

Marco Rossi will not be on the opening night roster for the Wild after the forward was one of their final cuts from training camp.
The 20-year-old, who had one assist and four shots on goal and was minus-1 in three preseason games, was assigned to Iowa of the American Hockey League.
"He understood," Wild coach Dean Evason said Sunday. "He knows obviously he hasn't played hockey, but he got better and better and better. We just asked him to get down there, play against pros, continue to develop, do what he does, and we'll see him back here as soon as possible."
Rossi, the No. 9 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, led the Ontario Hockey League with 120 points (39 goals, 81 assists) in 56 games for Ottawa in 2019-20 and was expected to push for a spot last season. Minnesota loaned him to Zurich SC of National League, the top professional league in Switzerland, because the 2020-21 NHL season was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, but Rossi was diagnosed with COVID-19 in mid-November after playing one game.
"He needs to play. He needs to kind of get back into the rhythm of things," Wild general manager Bill Guerin said Saturday. "The positive thing with Marco was you saw steady improvement in every game he played. So if he can just keep that going, that would be great."
Forward Matt Boldy will be out 4-6 weeks because of a fractured left ankle sustained in a 3-2 overtime win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday.
Boldy, who was expected to compete for a roster spot, had no points in four preseason games.
The No. 12 pick in the 2019 NHL Draft, Boldy scored 31 points (11 goals, 20 assists) in his sophomore season at Boston College before signing an entry-level contract with the Wild on March 30. He scored 18 points (six goals, 12 assists) in 14 games for Iowa of the American Hockey League.
