Men's Soccer Drops to No. 9 LMU, 2-1

The Zags couldn't overcome two late goals from the Lions

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's soccer team fell to No. 9 Loyola Marymount, 2-1, on Saturday night at Luger Field.

Th Zags (6-5-0, 1-1-0 West Coast Conference) and the Lions were both scoreless at the end of the first half. LMU (9-1-1, 1-1-0 WCC) outshout Gonzaga 7-5, while redshirt sophomore Johan Garibay recorded a save.

The Bulldogs were aggressive on the net in the final minutes of the first half, having two shots on goal. The first shot was from Jorge Aspas in the 42nd minute and Leon Sitz took another one in the 45th minute. 

In the second half, LMU got on the scoreboard first in the 81st minute with a goal from Nick Dauchot. Shortly after in the 82nd minute, Logan Dorsey received a second yellow card, which put the Zags down a player for the rest of the match. 

The Lions scored again in the 83rd minute from Ronaldo Brown, taking the 2-0 lead late in the game.

The Bulldogs kept the pressure as junior Demitrius Kigeya scored a goal in the 86th minute, his fourth goal this year. Freshman Wylie Trujillo assisted on the score, his first of the season. 

Garibay recorded six more saves in the second half and Gonzaga took 13 shots throughout the match with five on goal.
