AC Milan ‘can’t wait’ to get Tiémoué Bakayoko back from injury

Rocky start to his loan

After much haggling, waiting, and anticipating, Tiémoué Bakayoko eventually rejoined AC Milan on loan this summer, signing on for two years in fact with the Rossoneri, who have an option to make the move permanent at some point along the way as well.

But Bakayoko’s had a somewhat inauspicious start to life back in Milan, getting injured in his first appearance — while also receiving racist abuse from the visiting Lazio fans, which is under investigation by the Italian football federation (FIGC), for whatever that will be worht, after Milan raised a complaint.

The 28-year-old midfielder came on as a second-half substitute against the Biancocelesti on September 12, but was forced off just 12 minutes later with a calf injury. He’s yet to play since, which has deprived head coach Stefano Piolo of a midfield option. Piolo in fact “can’t wait” for Bakayoko to come back and join the rotation alongside the one nailed-on started in midfield, Sandro Tonali.

The two-year loan arrangement does make this injury less impactful on Bakayoko’s future prospects of staying with Milan long-term, but hopefully he can indeed come back soon. Milan are just a couple points behind high-flying and perfect Napoli at the top of the early Serie A table.
